Outcomes
Student will have and overview of various approaches in the academic study of religion, including phenomenology, sociology, anthropology, and psychology of religion.
Student will know the challenges and controversies in comparing religions, including issues of bias, syncretism, and the insider/outsider dilemma.
Student will learn the major Eastern religious traditions, their doctrines, rituals, and spiritual practices.
Students taking this course will have an understanding of spiritual traditions from around the world and the development of new religious movements in the modern era.
